Violet, Seal

Seal came to prominence at around the time when I got much less good at being able to remember the dates that artists peaked.  I had to check on Wikipedia to confirm that this album came out in the early nineties, which corresponded with the latter half of my time at university.

You might listen to this song late at night. It will be warm outside, perhaps a slight breeze.  The day will have been good, or, if it was less than good, will now be washed away.  The combination of insistent rhythm and laid back feel will lull you closer to sleep.  There's just enough puzzling about the song - some odd snatches of dialogue in the background - that you'll be prevented from drifting away.  The minor befuddlement will be somehow soothing; it's OK not understanding it all.  It means that there is more to listen to next time, and the time after that.  Deliciously, you'll be relaxed, lifted, and the melodies will drift out of the open door into the darkness beyond...
