There are a few artists whose voice is unique and instantly recognisable. Macy Gray belongs to that category. To be honest, I'm not even sure what she's doing with it - the closest I can get is that it is really a nasal growl. Which, of course, does immense injustice to the instrument it becomes here in this song.
I can remembering hearing this in around 2000, when we were living in Brisbane, and thinking "What on earth is that?" shortly followed by "Wow, it's good, isn't it?" This is a track to put on when you're low and you need a little dance around the kitchen. Really. Try it.
